Hemp is one of the oldest culti- vatedplants in the world and has been used by ropemakers for centuries. The hemp fibres are made using the bast of the industrially-cultivated plant and which is then processed to create yarn. Hemp ropes are particularly valued for their grip and wear resistance. How- ever, ropes made with hemp are also sensitive to weather and are known to de- teriorate over time when left outside. The length of the rope can varydepending on the humidity of the surroundings. Polyamide ropes Braided polyamide ropes - made using extremely durable, multi-filament polyam- ide yarn. Ropes made using polyam- ide are valued for their high minimum breaking load, their high breaking flexibilit y and dynamic load absorption. Thus, polyamide ropes are often used in shipping tree maintenance, by fire services, in construction as well as transport. Ropes made with polyamide can swell a little in water and are not entirely re- sistant to UV-rays and acids. These rope hold their shape, are abrasion-resistant with very good grip and have a smooth, round, somewhat shiny surface.
